I bet you didn’t know you could make hand pies in an air fryer. Today I’m showing you how to make these adorable and delicious Air Fryer Berry Hand Pies!
Yes, friends, I recently hopped on the air fryer bandwagon, and it’s so good to be here! Naturally, I decided to satisfy my sweet tooth, so for my inaugural recipe, I made these Berry Hand Pies. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.
This post is sponsored by Emeril Lagasse Power AirFryer 360. All opinions and ideas are my own.
The air fryer that I’m using is the Emeril Lagasse Power AirFryer 360. The folks over at Emeril Everyday were kind enough to send me one to try, and I am loving it! What I especially like about this air fryer is that it works as an air fryer, rotisserie, and a countertop dehydrator. You can also use it to toast, broil, and reheat. It’s truly a multi-purpose machine. To try it out, I used it to air fry these berry hand pies.
I love hand pies. They are great on-the-go desserts, but they are ever so tasty served with ice cream and fresh berries for garnish. To me, it’s like a Berry Pie Sundae. Summer dessert perfected!
How Do You Make Air Fryer Berry Hand Pies?
These are super easy to make, and you only need a few ingredients. I started with store-bought pie crust, although you can certainly make your own if you desire. (You can find my go-to pie dough recipe here.)
Using a rolling pin, I made the dough just a little thinner. Then I used a 4-inch circle cutter. If you space the circles tightly, you can cut seven of them out of each crust. Next, you ball up the remaining dough, roll it out, and cut out two more circles. (You’ll need 16 circles in all to create 8 hand pies.)
Side note: If you still have dough left, don’t throw it away. Save it for later and make some of my Pie Dough Cookies. You can use your air fryer to make them. too!
On eight of the 16 circles, place 2 tablespoons of berry jam and a few fresh berries. I used blueberries and raspberries, but you can use whatever berry or fruit you prefer.
Then brush an egg white wash around the edges of the circles you topped with filling. Place one of the remaining circles of dough on top of each and use a fork to crimp the edges. Pierce the top once with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
Add four of the prepared pies to the basket tray. Then once the air fry is preheated, bake for about 12 minutes or until the dough is browned.
That’s it! Baking these in the Emeril Lagasse Power AirFryer 360 leaves you with a flakey crust and warm berry-filled inside that’s just heavenly.
As I mentioned above, these hand pies can be served as is for a really tasty handheld treat. However, I think they are fabulous served warm with a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream and a few fresh berries. I’m certain you will love them as much as I do!
If you’d like more information on the Emeril Lagasse Power AirFryer 360, you can visit their website here. I further tested the machine by making mozzarella sticks, which you can see below. They were delish, and since they were air fried, they were healthier than the deep-fried variety. If you’re interested in that recipe, let me know, and I will get it on the blog!
Happy air frying!

Fiona says air-fried pies will work well, but because there is no bottom heating element, you may not get a crisp brown base. You'll also only have space to cook one or two at a time, but it will be faster than waiting for your oven to warm up. Air-frying a pie will be quicker than an oven.
Unless you have a large-capacity oven air fryer, a whole, standard-size pie might not fit. If you have a basket air fryer, don't fret. You can still enjoy an air-fried pie — it'll just have to be a smaller version. Mini pie pans, whether ceramic or non-stick, will work great in your air fryer.
To cook the perfect pie, when cooked from frozen we found a setting of 190c cooked for approximately 35 minutes worked very well and we would highly recommend these machines for cooking many foods, but especially our pies!
In general, from frozen, we cook our hand pies at 375 degrees (350 degrees for a convection oven) for 20-25 min. If you are using an air fryer, like ninja food, it should take about 10-12 minutes. If you are using a standard air fryer it should take about 12-18 min on average.
With an air fryer, you can achieve that perfect balance of golden crust and heavenly filling. Whether it's a savoury Steak & Sussex Ale or a comforting Chicken & Ham Hock, your pies will be baked to perfection in just 20-25 minutes.
The great news about air fryers is that you can use foil along with parchment paper to cook your food in an air fryer. Just remember that if it's safe and effective to use in a conventional oven, it will work just fine in an air fryer.
If the dish is oven-safe, made of borosilicate or tempered glass, it can work in an air fryer. However, if the dish is made of soda-lime glass, it can't withstand high temperatures in an air fryer. Always check labels and structural weaknesses, and try putting in an empty dish to test it out.
Spray/mist the top of the pot pie before cooking, or after 10-20 min of cooking. This will keep the top's temp down for a while as the water evaporates. Don't water-log it enough to make them soggy, but a few good spritzes until it beads will buy you several degree-minutes of time/temp slope.
Bake. The bake function is preset to 176°C and is perfect for baking cakes and pastries. Unlike the air frying function, the bake function doesn't have “turn food prompts” since baked goods don't require turning. With the Instant Vortex air fryer, you can now bake your favourite desserts without turning on your oven.
1. Preheat the oven to the temperature that your recipe recommends. Most fruit pies bake at a temperature between 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Some recipes call for baking the pie in a 450 degree F oven to begin with, then turning down the oven to about 350 degrees F.
The short answer is yes, you can use metal in an air fryer, provided it is an oven-safe dish. If you can safely bake it in a traditional oven, you can use it in an air fryer. This encompasses any oven-proof or oven-safe metal container or utensil.
Bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes. They'll be golden, bubbly, and perfectly delicious once they're done! In fact, no one will guess that you froze them before baking!
If you're looking for an easy way to cook Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie, look no further than your air fryer! This delicious dish can be cooked in under 20 minutes, and it's a perfect weeknight meal.
If baking from fresh (i.e., not frozen), bake for 15 minutes, lower the heat to 350F, and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until pies are deep golden brown and filling is bubbly. If baking from frozen, bake for 15 minutes at 425F then 20 – 25 minutes at 350F. Serve hot, with condiment of choice.
Fill the pastry dough with the vegetables and the crumbled goat cheese, salt, pepper, chopped garlic and rosemary. Make small cuts in the remaining puff pastry disc to vent steam and cover the pie. Egg wash the puff pastry and cook in the preheated air fryer at 180ºC until the pastry is crispy and golden.
An air fryer can do much more, including baking a cake. It's surprisingly not too different from baking a cake in your regular oven. In fact, baking in an air-fryer helps you save time, and energy and allows you to bake a variety of cakes, including sponge cakes, brownies, and more.
Tip the chips into the bottom of an air-fryer (the part with the paddle), add the oil, and toss the chips in the oil so they are evenly coated. Program the fryer to cook for 30 mins using the paddle. After this time, check that the chips are tender and cooked through. If they're not, cook for a further 5 mins.
